Suggested Itineraries

One day
Visit Colosseum, walk through Roman forum, Capitoline Hill; march past Piazza Venezia; visit Trevi fountain and the Pantheon; sit down at the Spanish Steps; take the metro (Orange line) to Vatican City and visit St.Peter's Basilica.

Two or more days
Day one: Visit Colosseum, walk through Roman forum, Palatine Hill, Capitoline museum; go past Piazza Venezia; visit Trevi fountain and the Pantheon; sit down with a cup of tea at the Spanish Steps.

Day two: Queue up early morning for the Vatican museums (including the Sistine Chapel); spend afternoon visiting St.Peter's Basilica.

Day three: Visit major squares and fountains - Piazza Navona, Piazza Barberini and Piazza Repubblica; stroll on Via Veneto, the celebrity street; or visit the other major churches - San Giovanni (St.John's), S. Paolo (St.Paul's) and S.M. Maggiore (St.Mary Major);wander in the catacombs and walk up Appia Antica - the world's oldest straight road.

Day Trips

Firenze (Florence) and Pisa
Florence is a 2 hour journey by train or car. Visit the Cathedral or Duomo, the Baptistry, Church of Santa Croce and the Uffizi Museum. Hop on a local train to Pisa (1 hr) and see the Leaning Tower. Return direct to Rome by train (4 hrs.)

Pompeii and Napoli
Take the train to Napoli (2 hrs.) and then switch to the smaller Circumvesuviana line for Pompeii. Visit the ruins of the ancient city excavated from the lava of the Vesuvius volcano. In Napoli, visit the Archaeological Museum of artefacts and dine on the city's most famous creation, the pizza.

Venice
Catch the 6.30 am train and reach Venice in 5 hrs. Get on a boat bus for St.Mark's Square. Visit the Doge Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. Ride a gondola and leisurely walk past and over the canals. Take a break at the most famous bridge, the Rialto. Return to Rome by the evening train.
